Arbroath goalkeeper plays STRIKER and SCORES screamer as 'goal of the season' comes in most bizarre way possible

Raith Rovers vs Arbroath took a bizarre turn as Jim McIntyre put the away side's sub goalkeeper on as a STRIKER.

But it proved a masterstroke as Alli Adams SCORED a long-range screamer to inspire a comeback from 2-0 down to 2-2 against the Championship leaders. Dylan Easton and Jack Hamilton goals put Ian Murray's side into a comfortable lead but nobody could have anticipated what would come next.

With a player shortage leaving just three outfield players on Jim McIntyre's bench, three substitute inside 46 minutes left Adams as the last man standing. So when Aaron Steele needed to come off, it was the sub goalie who was handed an outfield Arbroath shirt and told to do a shift up front. And he did that and more, by taking the ball under control and leathering a ball into the net. Leighton McIntosh then scored a penalty.

Derek Ferguson was on BBC comms duty and was dumbfounded. He exclaimed: "He drops into the hole, on the half-turn, drives forward five or six yards and unleashes an absolute piledrive. What a strike.

"He is a personal trainer and moments ago, he was turning around and having a go at the midfield players to ask why they weren't backing him up. I tell you what, that is goal of the season, brilliant, what a story, mad."

It caps off a madcap two weeks for Arbroath. Just last week, team-mates Jermain Hylton and Jay Bird were fighting each other on the park, leaving the other sent off.
