LIVE: Greater Manchester weather updates as region wakes up to snow... and more is on the way

Snow has fallen in parts of Greater Manchester this morning... and even more could be on the way.

Residents in parts of our region have woken up to a blanket of the white stuff on Tuesday after temperatures plummeted to below freezing overnight. According to the Met Office, 'heavy snow' could continue to fall from around 7am with snow showers forecast until around 10am this morning.

A yellow snow and ice warning is in place for our region came into force at midnight and will last all day today. Forecasters predict that 'further snow showers, perhaps merging into a longer spell of snow, are likely to cause further disruption on Tuesday'.

The mercury dropped to as low as -5C in some areas overnight. Freezing temperatures will continue this morning before the mercury rises to around 4C this afternoon.

The Bee Network has warned the wintry conditions 'may lead to some disruption to transport and infrastructure'. A number of roads are likely to be affected, with the public told to prepare for longer journey times by road, bus and also if using train services.

There has been a one-vehicle crash on Albion Way in Ashton-under-Lyne this morning, a GMP spokesperson confirmed.

There are no serious injuries reported, though the road is currently blocked as the vehicle awaits recovery.
