Arbroath goalkeeper goal screamer deemed BETTER than iconic McFadden strike as bonkers moment 'embarrasses' Raith

Arbroath boss Jim McIntyre watched his SUB KEEPER Ali Adams net a 25-yard wonderstrike and labelled it a Goal of the Season contender.

Adams played the last 35 minutes as a makeshift striker as Arbroath - who had already used their only three outfield subs - were forced to bring him on for injured Aaron Steele. And Adams repaid Lichties in style with a stunning effort to haul Arbroath back to 2-1 before Leighton McIntosh’s penalty cancelled out goals from Dylan Easton and Jack Hamilton.

That stunned the Championship leaders but left Arbroath boss Jim McIntyre purring with delight. When asked if it was similar to James McFadden’s famous winning strike for Scotland against France in 2007, McIntyre joked: “I actually think it’s better than Faddy’s! I don’t think there will be a better goal this season. I genuinely mean that.

“I’ve watched it back and it’s an unbelievable strike on the spin and it gave us a spark at a time when we were hanging in. It put a seed of doubt into Raith’s mind and galvanised us to go on and win.

“When Ali went on the message to him was: ‘Go and make a nuisance of yourself.’ He’s 6ft 4 and we knew he could used his strength but I didn’t expect that. I’m delighted for him and for the whole team but I don’t think we’ll see him up front again - that was an emergency situation and is almost certainly a one-off.”

Raith boss Ian Murray was less than impressed. He said: “Fair play to Arbroath but it’s embarrassing. I don’t care how it’s come about or how good the goal was he’s the sub keeper and he’s scored a 30-yarder against us.

“It’s just not good enough and the players know that. They are embarrassed, I’m embarrassed and the club should be embarrassed too.”
