Approach made: Spurs join race to sign ‘sensational’ £25m man this week as price tag plummets

According to Portuguese newspaper Record (via Sport Witness), it appears Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Sporting CP midfielder Joao Palhinha.

As per reliable reports, Tottenham and transfer chief Fabio Paratici are hard at work on multiple transfers behind the scenes in what looks set to be a busy week for the club.

The Lilywhites are apparently looking to orchestrate many incomings and outgoings, says Fabrizio Romano, with the signing of Wolves star Adama Traore and a potential exit for Tanguy Ndombele seen as the priorities.

Sharing more news on Spurs’ transfer plans this week, Record have an update involving Lisbon ace Palhinha.

According to their sources, Tottenham have joined the race to sign Palhinha this week with ‘approaches’ made in recent days through intermediaries.

This comes as the Portugal international’s price plummets since the summer window, with Sporting now willing to sell for around €30 million (£25m) – down from his summer valuation of €40m (£33.3m).

The report adds that Spurs face competition from Man United, Wolves, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla.

The 26-year-old could be a great alternative to fellow-linked midfielder Sofyan Amrabat if Spurs can’t get him over the line, especially going by the player’s WhoScored statistics.

Palhinha’s extremely impressive 3.4 tackles on average per 90 trumps that of anyone in the Tottenham squad (WhoScored), pointing towards a possible bargain for just £25m.

Lauded as ‘sensational’ by Portuguese football journalist and founder of TugaScout Alex Goncalves, as seen in The Shropshire Star, Sporting’s ace would be a brilliant option for Spurs and manager Antonio Conte in the final hurdle of this window.
