Greater Manchester Fire Service (GMFRS) said in a statement that one fire engine and an aerial platform were sent to the apartment building and safely removed the pane of glass.

Pictures from the scene show a number of police vehicles, and fire crews assessing the area within the police cordon this morning.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At around 11.30am on Saturday 8 April, fire crews were called to reports of shattered glass falling from the sixth floor of a residential building on Murray Street, Manchester.

"One fire engine and an aerial platform from Manchester Central quickly attended the incident. Firefighters put a safety cordon in place in the road below and then used a turntable ladder to safely remove the pane of glass.

"GMFRS crews were in attendance for approximately 45 minutes."
