If Manchester United's supporters took any positives from their last visit to the Etihad Stadium, it was probably Antony scoring for the second Premier League game running.
After marking his United debut with a goal against Arsenal four weeks earlier, the Brazilian made it two goals in as many league appearances for the club against Manchester City. Though it was not worthy of celebrating, given United were 4-0 down by the time they got themselves on the scoresheet, it was a goal to take encouragement from.
The winger, who had arrived from Ajax a few weeks earlier for a fee north of £80million, bent home a sumptuous left-footed effort from distance. It was a stunning hit and one that offered a brief moment of comfort through the pain as United made the return trip to Old Trafford on the wrong end of a 6-3 scoreline.

Antony maintained his bright start to life in England the following weekend, scoring in United's 2-1 win at Everton. That remains one of his most polished performances in United colours.
Since scoring his third goal in as many Premier League appearances at Goodison Park on October 9, 2022, Antony has added just one league goal to his tally - scoring in United's 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground almost 12 months ago. He has not scored or registered an assist in the league this season, with his only goal contributions of any kind in 2023/24 coming in the FA Cup fourth round against Newport County.
