Antonio Giovinazzi underlines ambition to return to Formula 1 in 2023

Antonio Giovinazzi has said he wants to head back to Formula 1 in 2023 if possible, after a year out driving in Formula E.

The Italian’s first spell in F1 came to an end at the conclusion of 2021 as Alfa Romeo completely changed their driver line-up, with the retiring Kimi Raikkonen also leaving the team.

Indeed, Giovinazzi embarked on a new challenge as he joined the Formula E field for their most recent season, which ended in August as Stoffel Vandoorne took the title, but it was not a successful venture as he ended the campaign with several retirements and 0 points for the Dragon Penske team.

Asked about his future, he said nothing was certain but outlined what he hopes will happen:

“So let’s see what we can do. For now, I focus on doing a great job in these two sessions. One is over. Then we have another one.”

Kevin Magnussen has a contract with Haas for next season with his return to F1 going well this year, but Schumacher’s future is still far from certain and so there’s a chance a different face will be in the other side of the garage next year.
