As always with all new signings, the proof will be in the pudding where Antonio Colak and Rangers are concerned.

So as much as I like the look of the Croatian striker - and from what I’ve seen of him there’s a lot to get excited about - it’s always better to reserve judgement until he’s here in the flesh. I learned over the years that not everyone is built to cope with the demands of wearing a Rangers shirt so, as talented as he looks, we won’t know for sure if he can handle the pressure until he’s pitched into the thick of it.

This is a different world to anything he’ll ever have experienced before. It’s a place where drawing a match is a disaster and losing one is the end of the world. Trust me, not everyone is cut out to cope with those sorts of expectations. I’ve seen with my own eyes plenty of guys arriving with big reputations and leaving with their tail between their legs because they crumbled mentally under the strain of being a Rangers player. There’s no other place quite like it.

But what I know for sure is, if this guy is used to playing his football at PAOK Salonika, then he won’t bat an eyelid at any of the madness that’s waiting for him in Scottish football. I still remember going there for a European qualifier back in 1998 - in fact, I’ll never, ever forget it. So much so that, to this day, when anyone asks me about intimidating atmospheres I’ve experienced, that is always my No.1.
