Calvin Bassey Rangers exit latest as huge exit fee revealed and how deal rivals Tierney's Arsenal move

Calvin Bassey is close to completing a move to Ajax from Rangers that could be in the region of £25 million when performance-related add-ons are taken into consideration.

The Nigerian defender was left out of the Rangers squad that won away at Blackpool in their third pre-season friendly match on Saturday, July 16, as a move to the Dutch champions nears. They are looking to replace Manchester United-bound Lisandro Martinez and are willing to spend big bucks on his replacement.

It's widely reported that the initial deal will be in excess of £20 million, which alone would see Rangers make a huge profit after signing Bassey from Leicester City in 2020 for a £230,000 fee. Up until November, he was mainly used as a deputy at left-back to Borna Barisic but has enjoyed an unbelievably fast rise up the ranks, playing a key part in both Europa League and Scottish Cup finals last season.

A 10% sell-on clause will also be inserted into the deal and according to the Athletic, 'the transfer fee could come to rival Kieran Tierney’s move from Celtic to Arsenal, which amounted to £25million.'

That is when 'performance-related bonuses are taken into consideration.'

Already this summer, Rangers have lost attacker Joe Aribo to Southampton while Kemar Roofe has been linked with a loan move to Derby County.

It's been a busy summer in terms of incomings though, with boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst already signing John Souttar, Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo and Malik Tillman.
