Anthony Elanga has already explained how he is reacting to lack of Manchester United game time

After a breakthrough season that peaked with a Champions League goal away to Atletico Madrid and a debut Sweden call-up, Anthony Elanga has had a frustrating few months.

The arrival of Antony and the form of Marcus Rashford - who this week said he favours playing on the left wing - has made it hard for the attacker to push for game time in recent weeks.

He has failed to feature for United in the Premier League since Antony’s signing and has played just 80 minutes across all three Europa League games this term despite grabbing an assist against Liverpool.

Elanga was also denied minutes against Omonia on Thursday, watching on as fellow substitutes Anthony Martial and Rashford ignited the comeback. It seems evident that he is seen as a squad player in Erik ten Hag’s eyes.

The 20-year-old has not played since coming on for nine minutes against Sheriff Tiraspol on September 15. He will hope to enjoy his first outing in next week’s game against Omonia.

In the meantime, the winger has already vowed to put the hard yards in on the training pitch. Speaking over the summer, Elanga unpacked what competing with the likes of Rashford and Jadon Sancho for game time entails.

“It is healthy competition,” he admitted. “It is important to have competition like that in training, because if someone starts ahead of you in games it will motivate you to work even harder in training and try to take their position.
