Annual sold-out Sportsman's Dinner is just the ticket for King James VI Golf Club

The ‘sold out’ signs were up very quickly for King James VI Golf Club’s annual Sportsman’s Dinner.

The near 250 plate, centerpiece fundraiser - which is always a popular fixture in the local social calendar - takes place in the Salutation Hotel on Saturday, January 20 to get 2024 off to a flying start for the Perth club.

The dinner is a core element of the ‘King Jimmy’ funding and social programme and organisers said the full house could not be more welcome this year.

That is especially as the programme of repair - necessitated by the exceptional autumn rainfall - continues at The Island.

Staff and volunteers joined forces after severe flooding to clear the course of debris and begin the process of making the course playable again. That has been hailed a great success.

Club manager, Ian McPhee, said: “There’s no doubt we could have done without the exceptional weather events of late 2023.

“But in true King Jimmy style we are not far off getting the course and facilities back to where they were thanks to the very hard work of our staff and, as ever, our army of volunteer members.”

Asked if this year’s dinner takes on even more importance because of the events of this winter, Ian said: “Not entirely but the timing is more important this year. The dinner gives everyone a lift.

“It’s a showpiece for our optimism for the 2024 season ahead. The money raised helps, but it’s just as important to get the King James VI friendly, sociable and fun brand out there.”

Ian added: “Once again, we are grateful to JACS (Joinery and Construction Supplies) our main sponsor, and to all of the other businesses and individuals who have provided support this year.”
