Annan Athletic out of SPFL Trust Trophy after Queen's Park loss
Annan exited the SPFL Trust Trophy on Saturday after Queen’s Park dominated the game with a 4-1 win at Galabank.
Now Wullie Gibson’s side have to dust themselves down for their return to league duty on Saturday.
They face a long away trip to fellow Scottish League One strugglers Inverness Caley Thistle who sit just one place below them.
A win would propel the black-and-golds up the table in what is a very tight division – Annan lie in eighth place just five points behind leaders Kelty Hearts.
And the Galabankies will want to post a stronger performance than Saturday’s showing.
Boss Gibson said: “It’s back to our bread and butter and we’ll hopefully come away with some points.
“We’ve got to go there and give a good account of ourselves.”
It was uphill for Annan in the Trust Trophy after they found themselves two down at the break to a sharp-looking Queens Park outfit.
And the deficit became 4-0 before Charlie Maxwell pulled one back late on.
Gibson was “proud” of his squad despite the end goal tally.
He added: “I know we’ve conceded four goals at home but Queen’s Park are a really good side.
“At four-nil down it would be easy to chuck in the towel but we kept playing.
“Their goalie had to make a few saves and young Charlie got his first professional goal, which is a positive.
“I know sometimes we’ll give up cheap possession and make mistakes.
“But I want us to be brave on the ball and I thought everyone, including the subs when they came on, did that.”
