Annan Athletic boss aims to get back to winning ways against Stranraer

Annan Athletic boss Peter Murphy will be looking to get back to winning ways in a local derby this Saturday.

The Galabankies have yet to register a win over Stranraer this season with Stevie Farrell’s side winning the opening day fixture 1-0 at Stair Park and the sides sharing two 1-1 draws after that.

Peter said: “Saturday would be a good time to get the first win to keep up in that area of the table but it’s going to be a very tough game.

“They had a decent result on Saturday drawing with Stirling but missed a penalty in the last minute so they could’ve won it.

“Then they won against Albion Rovers so you can’t take anything for granted in the league this year.”

The Galabankies fell 2-1 away to Forfar Athletic last week as the play-off picture in League Two tightens up as the business end of the season approaches.

The Galabankies are level with East Fife on 40 points, two points ahead of Stenhousemuir in fifth and three points ahead of Forfar who lie in sixth with Saturday’s opponents just four points back.

Peter added: “I’ve said all season anybody can beat anybody in this division and that’s the way it has been panning out.

“You’ve got the likes of Stirling winning on Tuesday night going top after Dumbarton were 12 points clear earlier in the season. Stranraer have pulled with a couple of good results and it will be in their minds if they get three points they will be one point behind us.

“Albion Rovers pulled off a great result on Saturday against Dumbarton winning 5-1 and then they lost to Stranraer on Tuesday night. This division is wide open. Anybody can beat anybody.”
