Ange Postecoglou bristles at Celtic injury poser as boss 'can't predict the future' over Cameron Carter Vickers surgery

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has looked to ease concerns over an injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers for the end of season run-in.

The 57-year-old knows his champions elect are racing toward a second consecutive Scottish Premiership crown as the prepare to face Motherwell at Celtic Park but fears over the fitness of key defender Carter-Vickers have ramped up after the American international missed the clash with Kilmarnock. The United States national team revealed last month Carter-Vickers had pulled out of their squad with a knee injury.

The Parkhead medical team are monitoring the player before making a decision on his involvement over the rest of the campaign with the defender facing surgery once the league title is claimed. The 25-year-old reported for training at Lennoxtown ahead of the clash with the Steelmen in Glasgow's east end.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's game Postecoglou was swerved any fears over the centre-back seeing out the season. He said: "Cameron's trained all week and will play tomorrow. The only reason he didn't play last week was because of the surface."

Pressed on whether Carter-Vickers will need an operation, the manager bristled: "I can't predict the future. If he gets through tomorrow, he'll play next week."
