Ange, Celtic and 'SPL' targeted during infuriating rant as snidey shock jock is 11 years out of date

Unbowed Ange Postecoglou's booming Tottenham prediction has been used against him by a withering pundit citing a league which hasn't existed in 11 years.

Former Liverpool star Jermaine Pennant claims he's not buying Postecoglou's steadfast belief that trophies are coming Tottenham's way for the first time in 16 years in the wake of a chastening experience on the south coast. The former Celtic boss was fuming after Spurs' capitulation against Brighton before the international break. The Aussie was left ashen-faced as his players went from scintillating to shameful en route to a shock 3-2 defeat.

And Pennant – known for his strong opinions – reckons Postecoglou's CV is the cause for concern when factoring in his big opinions. Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "Every second season he's won something, so he can say that. But he's got to understand that he's now in the Premier League. It's not the SPL. It's not the Aussie A-League. It's the Premier League. To win something here, you've got to be a good manager and have a good team. But like I said, he's done it. So he can say that."

The Scottish Premiership hasn't been called the 'SPL' for 13 seasons, and while many reckon that switch-up was an own goal to our brand, it is an out of date term which undersells the work Postecoglou achieved during his two trophy-laden years in Glasgow. Postecoglou has rued the inability of his Spurs side to win at Leicester, Newcastle and Brighton – a trio of games his side have dominated, however, the 59-year-old will believe the advantages in possession and shots will lead to long-term results.

Meanwhile, former Spurs star Aaron Lennon would love Postecoglou to rock Spurs' world with silverware, however, he is unsure if it will come to pass.
