Andres Montano offered for Celtic or Rangers transfer as Mexican breakout star's agents plot Premier League pathway

Andres Montano has been offered to both Celtic and Rangers as his agents desperately try to to get the Mexican international a move to Scottish football.

Currently with Liga MX club Mazatlan, the 22-year-old won his first Mexico cap against Bolivia at Chicago's Soldier Field last week and is set to feature in this summer's Copa America Mexico boss Jaime Lozano handed Montano his international debut as a reward for an outstanding campaign and he was linked with a move to Cruz Azul in his homeland. He still has two years left of his contract and is valued at a bargain £1 million. But the agency that represents him has revealed they want Montano to move to Europe and have made contact with the Scottish Premiership's big two.

Rafael Guillen, agent for El Cielo Management, said: "Yes, there are four clubs in Liga MX who have approached us including Cruz Azul and we have held conversations with them. But we plan for Andres to make the jump to Europe now due to his characteristics and because it is the goal we aim for him.

"We think that Andres could easily play without problems for Celtic, or for Rangers, because of our relationship with them, but they are not the only ones. Celtic and Rangers have a lot of quality. The English Premier League is the number one league in the world and we already have Edson Alvarez and Raul Jimenez as Mexicans there.

"But to get to that league, you have to move elsewhere in Europe first like Greece, Portugal or Scotland. And being able to play with Celtic or Rangers for a year makes it the perfect pathway to go to the Premier League.
