Andreas Pereira suffers Man Utd transfer setback due to 'more urgent problems'

Andreas Pereira's hopes of making his loan deal with Flamengo permanent are thought to have suffered a minor setback as Manchester United appear to have more important things to address.

The 26-year-old was seemingly on the brink of completing the deal but a recent report from UOL suggests any move is likely to be delayed for at least another few days.

This stems from United's disastrous recent form, with the Red Devils suffering a shock FA Cup exit at the hands of Middlesbrough before drawing with bottom-placed Burnley.

In a bid to 'more urgent problems' at the club, Pereira's move has been knocked someway down the pecking order in terms of priorities.

A deal has not collapsed with both parties still expected to come to an agreement sooner than later.

A fee of £9m is rumoured to have been agreed, while United will pocket 25 per cent of any future sale should Flamengo move him on.

Pereira's loan spell has seen the 26-year-old impress for the most part but the midfielder was guilty of a crucial blunder in the Copa Libertadores final against Palmeiras.

One of the reasons Pereira is so keen on making the move permanent is thought to be the fact he views remaining at Flamengo as his best chance of securing a place in Brazil's World Cup squad for Qatar later this year.

The Brazilian is actually one of the longest-serving players still technically on the books at United given he joined the club as an academy player over a decade ago in 2011.

Making his first-team debut three years later, Pereira has failed to make the grade at Old Trafford and nail down a regular spot in the first-team fold.

His best effort came during the interrupted 2019/20 season, where he enjoyed 40 appearances in all competitions.
