Andre Onana did exactly what Erik ten Hag wanted him to do on Manchester United debut

Andre Onana made his first appearance in Manchester United colours as they were beaten 2-0 by Real Madrid in Houston.

After playing no part in Saturday's 2-0 win over Arsenal at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the shot-stopper, who joined the club from Inter Milan last week, was thrown into the starting line-up against the Spanish heavyweights. Though his hopes of a debut clean sheet were dashed after just six minutes, his performance provided plenty of positives.

As per Sofascore's specialist data, Onana was United's second-highest-rated starter in Houston, earning a match rating of seven out of 10. Only Casemiro earned a higher rating, scoring 7.3.

United had slightly more of the ball than Madrid over the course of the contest, claiming 52.9 per cent of the possession. Onana had 51 touches of the ball over the course of the 90 minutes, highlighting his eagerness to be involved in play.
