Amy Dowden discussed 'biggest shock' about her health before BBC Strictly Come Dancing exit

Amy Dowden was heard speaking about the 'biggest shock' she faced while having treatment for cancer in a video shared before her Strictly Come Dancing exit was confirmed.

The professional dancer made a much-welcomed return to the ballroom back in September after she was forced to miss competing in the 2023 series while undergoing chemotherapy treatment following her breast cancer diagnosis, which she recieved in May 2023.

During her treatment, Amy also contracted life-threatening sepsis and faced other frightening setbacks before ringing the end-of-treatment bell and being told there is "no evidence of disease" following tests back in February this year.

The 34-year-old has continued to openly and bravely share her cancer journey with her large following and is now a keen breast cancer campaigner.

And it was in a new social media video that Amy was heard talking about one of the "biggest shocks" she faced during her treatment after being diagnosed with a 'hormone-fed' cancer.

In the clip, which was part of Boots and Macmillan Cancer's collaboration for menopause awareness month, Amy was seen lounging on her sofa in a knit jumper with a cup of tea as she opened up on her own menopausal symptoms as she told how being put into a medically-induced menopause was "one of the biggest shocks" of her treatment.

Since then she has experienced a list of symptoms including hot flushes, struggling to sleep, and low energy – which she pointed out was a particular problem when working on a show like Strictly. "This was a huge shock. I was in a bit of denial, and I had no idea about the menopause," she said.
