World 100m hurdles record holder, Tobi Amusan, has been included in Team Nigeria’s relay squad for the ongoing 13th African Games holding in Ghana.
In the final list of athletes released by the AFN, yesterday, Amusan is expected to compete in four events at the Games.

Apart from her usual 100m hurdles, she is listed in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. Amusan will be seeking to become the second Nigerian woman to successfully defend an African Games title in the same event twice after Vivian Chukwuemeka, who won the Shot Put title thrice at Johannesburg ’99 in South Africa, the 2003 COJA Games in Nigeria and 2007 in Algeria.

Amusan won her first African Games high hurdles title on her debut in 2015 and successfully defended it in 2019,setting a new 12.68 seconds Games’ record in the process.

She will now be seeking a third straight title in the event to achieve what no woman has ever done in the event and what only one Nigerian woman has achieved in track and field in Games’ history.

Other women athletes listed in the 100m/200m/4x100m are Blessing Ogundiran, Justina Eyakpobeyan, Abinusawa Moforehan and Onyebuchi Chisom.
Amusan is listed alongside Faith Osamuyi and Stella Ayanleke in the 100m hurdles.

World silver medalist in the long jump, Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro and Pristina Ochonogor will compete in the long jump event. The men’s 100m/200m/ 4x100m squad comprises Consider Ekanem, Itshekiri Usheoritse, Okon Israel, Seye Ogunlewe, Alaba Akintola, Adegoke Enoch and Adekalu Fakorede.
The athletics event will start on March 18.
