Ambitious Moolman aims to cut it among golf's best at St Andrews: 'I know I'm capable of more'

Losing (and bad shots) are part of the game - regardless of whether you had a great round - and as it becomes increasingly difficult to win, golfers must learn to adapt early on. That is the mindset required.

Some wait for that elusive win for years. Others are just looking for consistency. But once you've tasted success, the appetite to win increases and the desire to play against the world's best is what fuels several.

For Sunshine Tour golfer Pieter Moolman, his Fortress Invitational win last year has inspired him to put in the hard work and show what he is capable of.

This past weekend, Moolman came close to securing his second Sunshine Tour title when he agonisingly lost in a play-off against Kyle Barker at the Vodacom Origins of Golf event in Devonvale in Stellenbosch.

"When you're playing well, you enjoy the game a lot more because the golf game is there. When the golf game is not really there, you need to keep your focus on where you want to end up," Moolman told News24.

"We all play to win as much as we can. Once you start getting into a space where you're struggling, it just takes a little work to get back to where you were.

"For me personally, I know I'm capable of more. And although the golf game is a bit up and down, you just need to keep pushing through. You know how the tide will turn and you'll start playing like you want to."

Moolman won't be defending his Fortress Invitational title, which gets under way at Glendower Golf Course from 5-8 October.

Instead, he will make his 17th DP World Tour appearance when he competes in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews.

It's the biggest tournament of his career and he joins an elite field which includes Pádraig Harrington, Tommy Fleetwood and Billy Horschel.
