Amber weather warning live updates as flood alerts are issued in Wales amid 'danger to life' warning
Stormy weather and heavy rain is causing chaos across Wales amid several Met Office warnings. The forecaster warned of "danger to life" and issued an amber weather warning for rain for part of Wales, as well as two more yellow warnings for wind and rain across the country.
Rain started on Sunday afternoon, with the heaviest expected to fall from 4pm until Monday at 7am. The Met Office forecast reads: "Rain will become persistent and heavy through the remainder of Sunday, clearing to the east overnight but followed by showers into Monday morning. Accumulations of 50 to 70 mm are expected fairly widely over high ground well-inland, with the most exposed hills potentially receiving 80 to 100 mm. This may lead to some surface water and river flooding. In addition, strong south to southwesterly winds will also accompany the rain."
Areas affected by the amber warning include: Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen and Vale of Glamorgan.
There is an additional yellow weather warning in place covering the majority of Wales between 6am and 6pm today (Sunday), as well as an additional yellow weather warning for rain covering parts of south Wales between 12pm on Sunday to 8am on Monday.
Travel disruption has begun with the M48 Severn Bridge shut in both directions due to strong winds. National Rail has also warned: "Heavy rainfall can cause flooding that results in tracks being underwater and embankments being damaged, causing potential landslips. Flooding can affect points and signalling equipment, which allow trains to move from one line to another." A number of flood alerts and warnings are also in place
