AmaZulu register first CAF Champions League win

Amazulu registered their first victory in the Caf Champions League group stages with a 1-0 win over Guinean club Horoya at the Moses Mabhida stadium.

Luvuyo Memela scored the game's only goal in the first half as Usuthu recovered after losing to Moroccan side Raja Casablanca last week.

The Guinean team started the contest well on Friday, and they had the first effort on goal when Morlaye Sylla hit a long-range shot just wide.

The hosts took the lead just after the half-hour mark when Memela showed his calmness in front goal to send a cheeky back-heel past visiting goalkeeper Moussa Camara.

The forward ran across the penalty area, latched onto a low cross from Augustine Mulenga, and applied the neat finish.

Amazulu had an opportunity to double their lead before halftime, but forward Abraham Majok steered a header just wide of the target.

Horoya came out determined after the interval and nearly found an equaliser, but Boniface Haba hit the woodwork.

The visitors continued to apply pressure, with Usuthu looking under pressure as the game neared its ending.

Amazulu, though, held on and claimed all three points to get off the mark in this season's Caf Champions League group stage.

In the other game in the group, Raja Casablanca beat Algerian side ES Setif 1-0 away from home to make it two wins from two.
