'Amazing' - Fabrizio Romano drops glowing Aston Villa claim after 'top-secret' January move

Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the Que Golazo YouTube channel about Aston Villa’s move to sign Calum Chambers.

The defender arrived at Villa Park with little suggestion that the player was close or even being linked with a switch to the Midlands – in a very similar way to how they went about their business over the summer when Danny Ings was announced.

Chambers was clearly in need of a new chapter in his career having spent nearly eight years on the books at Arsenal, but had seen his playing time decrease in recent seasons, especially the current campaign, in which he’d started just two league games.

Romano was very impressed with the signing and how Villa kept it quiet.

“Chambers is a very good signing, in my opinion.

“It was a top-secret signing like Danny Ings, so they’re very, very good and congrats to Aston Villa. Congrats, because all the players [Villa signed], we can say they are loving to work with Steven Gerrard. So the atmosphere is really beautiful and when it happens in football, it is always amazing.”

TIF Thoughts on Calum Chambers to Aston Villa…

It certainly is a great way that Aston Villa look to do business by keeping their cards very close to their chest and not letting stories leak out into the press, as that’s almost unheard of now, especially within the Premier League.

However, it’s not all about how the deal was done, as Chambers himself could prove to be a very useful player under Steven Gerrard. He has a wealth of Premier League experience and can play in several positions across the backline, making him appear to be a bargain signing.
