Amadou Onana being tracked by Arsenal, West Ham as reasons emerge for possible Lille exit
Arsenal have joined fellow London club West Ham United in being linked with a summer swoop for Lille midfielder Amadou Onana.
The duo finished fifth and seventh respectively in 2021-2022 and both will play European football next term. The Gunners just missed out on a place in the Champions League and will have to make do with the Europa League. And, having reached the semi-finals of Europe’s second-tier competition last season, the Hammers will operate in the Europa Conference League.
The capital clubs are both tipped to strengthen this summer, with Arsenal chief Mikel Arteta having plenty of work to do.
A number of stars are expected to leave the Emirates and the Spaniard is thought to be in the market for a new midfielder. And it seems as though the Belgium Under-21 enforcer is on the radar. But West Ham boss David Moyes is also said to be keen.
Foot Mercato are suggesting that the two clubs ‘have supervised him’ during the campaign just finished. The Senegal-born starlet moved from Bundesliga outfit Hamburg to Lille last summer.
Les Dogues paid the Germans just €7m for the schemer as they looked to bolster the ranks following their Ligue 1 triumph.
He made 32 appearances but only 11 starts in a campaign that failed to get going for the defending champions. Lille finished 10th and failed to qualify for Europe.
