Alycia Baumgardner beats Mikaela Mayer in bitter grudge match by split decision
American boxing star Alycia Baumgardner defeated bitter rival Mikaela Mayer in a closely fought contest at London’s iconic O2 Arena on Saturday night.
The pair met in a highly-anticipated fight in a bid to settle their beef after the bout was originally postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Baumgardner, 28, added Mayer’s WBO, IBF and The Ring belts to her own WBC and IBO world titles with arguably the best performance of her career to date.
As expected Baumgardner started the aggressor, loading up in a bid to land that overhand right onto the chin of her slimmer and taller opponent.

Mayer meanwhile continued to stoically march forwards for most of the fight as she used her long reach to establish her jab.
But Baumgardner landed the bigger more eye-catching shots to end the contest on the front foot as the decision went to the judges ringside.
One judge scored the bout 97-93 in favour of Mayer, while the other two scored it 96-95 and 96-95 for Baumgardner, with the pair sharing a touching moment of respect in the ring after the fight.
