'Always be true to yourself'... Brianna Ghey's school's heartfelt tribute after funeral

Brianna Ghey's school has issued a heartfelt tribute to her following her funeral last week.

Birchwood Community High School, where the 16-year-old transgender girl was a pupil, has set up a memory page online for her. Headteacher Emma Mills opened the tributes with a touching message thanking Brianna for her legacy of 'always be true to yourself'.

She said Birchwood 'will be a quieter and duller place' without the teenager and added that Brianna set an example to all at the school. In full, the touching tribute said: "Birchwood will be a quieter and duller place without you, Brianna.

"You brought your unique sense of humour and wit to our corridors and you taught us all the importance of being our most authentic selves. You set an example to all of us through your strong sense of self and determined character.

"Your astute remarks, love of handbags and wonderful candour will be missed immeasurably. Thank you for being part of our Birchwood family, you were an invaluable member of our community and leave behind an outstanding legacy rooted in powerful and important message: always be true to yourself."

Dozens of other friends have left tributes for Brianna on the memory page, describing her as 'beautiful person'. On Wednesday last week (March 15), Brianna's funeral took place with hundreds of friends, family and well-wishers, many dressed in a flash of pink, gathering to say goodbye.

Brianna was found with fatal stab wounds on a path in Culcheth Linear Park on the afternoon of February 11. A boy and a girl, both 15, have been charged with murder.

They are due to go on trial at Liverpool Crown Court
