Ally McCoist cornered into raving about Aberdeen as Rangers hero refuses to deny one thing about Thelin

Begrudging Ally McCoist has heaped praise on Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin after his "flying" start to life in Scottish football.

It was a thriller at Pittodrie as the Dons kept pace with Celtic at the Scottish Premiership summit with a 3-2 win over struggling Hearts as Ante Palaversa’s late goal the managerless Jambos. The result leaves Aberdeen and Celtic locked in first and second in the Premiership with both sides on maximum points. After Thelin's run of 13 wins from 13 in all competitions, McCoist's beloved Rangers have been left lagging five points behind in the race for the title.

The Swede will face the ultimate test of their title credentials when he takes Aberdeen to Celtic Park to face Brendan Rodgers' defending champions on their own turf following the international break. And Ibrox legend McCoist conceded he has been impressed with the rising Reds - admitting Thelin has done a "great job" since stepping into the Pittodrie hot seat last summer.

Responding to messages on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show alongside Jeff Stelling, McCoist was put on the spot about the unbeaten record. He said: "Somebody else has come in and is well within his rights to give a big shoutout to Aberdeen, who are flying.

"They are absolutely flying, another victory against Hearts in a five-goal thriller. I must admit, the new manager has come in there and done a great job, and is doing a great job."
