Allan McGregor receives another Rangers defence as James Tavernier insists full squad is behind under fire keeper

James Tavernier has leapt to the defence of Allan McGregor and insists the Rangers dressing room is fully behind the under-fire keeper.

But the Light Blues skipper confessed the champions have made too many away day errors as he admitted they have to be more clinical in the final third.

McGregor was criticised for his performance as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men surrendered a two-goal lead against Motherwell at Ibrox to spill two points in the title race.

But, ahead of Wednesday’s trip to St Johnstone, Tavernier said: “McGregor is a top keeper for us, even in the Dortmund game midweek he pulled off massive saves for us.

“We are here as a team and we concede and score goals as a team. All the lads fully back Greegsy.

“There have been a few errors at away games and we have not been clinical, but we have been playing good football and creating chance.

“Tomorrow is an important game for us. It’s about taking a bit of extra care in the final third as we are creating plenty of chances and we need to find the back of the net.

“We have ten games left and our focus is on being perfect. The performances have been there our last few games, but we have conceded poor goals.

“We are creating chances and playing our game, we have to be more clinical and finish games off.

“All the guys were disappointed with the second half on Sunday and we have to learn from it and put in a performance tomorrow night.

“We play for Rangers and we expect to win every single game. That is the pressure we want to be playing under.”
