Allan McGregor and the Rangers contract mystery as Barry Ferguson makes prediction despite wall of silence

Barry Ferguson has spoken with Allan McGregor on his Rangers future - but is no clearer on what comes next for the goalkeeper.

Light Blues boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst subbed the veteran on for the final minute of Saturday's 2-0 Scottish Cup final win over Hearts on Saturday.

It appeared to be a final farewell to the goalkeeper who returned to his boyhood club in 2018 following a spell at Hull City.

McGregor himself hasn't ruled out staying and his future has been the subject of debate, with the 40-year-old expected to take time to decide.

Ferguson played with the former Scotland international during his first stint at Ibrox and believes he's the best stopper he's ever played with.

While keen to see him continue on another year, the former Rangers captain is in no doubt about McGregor's impact at the club.

The Record Sport columnist said on Go Radio: "I'm 50-50. I would love him to stay and I still think he's got it in him to play, I still think he's a top goalkeeper.

"Allan will make the decision himself and I think everybody will respect that.

"I think he mentioned he's going to take a bit of time out for a week or two and go on holiday with the family, and then he'll make his decision.

"But I'm hopeful he'll stay on another year. If you're asking my opinion, I honestly don't know. I tried to get it out of him!

"He's a man of few words. Whatever he decides to do, you've got to respect it because he's the best goalkeeper I played with and I played with some unbelievable goalkeepers in my time.

"I just think the last three years, for Rangers to go and sign him on a free transfer was unbelievable business.
