Alistair Johnston spotted at Celtic training as defender ramps up Scottish Cup final fitness race

Alistair Johnston has been spotted training for Celtic as he ramps up his recovery ahead of the Scottish Cup final.

The Canadian has been integral to Postecoglou's side in the second half of the campaign after arriving from CF Montreal but injured his right ankle during the Scottish Cup semi-final against rivals Rangers last month. That didn't stop the 24-year-old from engaging in Celtic's full-time celebrations at Hampden while on crutches, something he admitted he might regret after.

As the quest for a treble continues with Inverness Caledonian Thistle the only roadblock to a trio of trophies, Postecoglou will look to have the right back at his disposal for the Scottish Cup final after he made a makeshift defence in the 2-2 draw with St Mirren on Saturday that saw Anthony Ralston deployed with Tomoki Iwata slotting in at centre half.

Record Sport revealed the defender was facing a race against time to be ready but it appears he could now be available for the Hampden showpiece as Celtic get ready to travel to Easter Road to face Hibs on Wednesday.

Postecoglou provided a more detailed updated saying: "He trained today, his first session. He won't play tomorrow. But all things being equal if he gets through the rest of the week training he should be ready for the weekend.

"We will hopefully get him some game time. He's worked very hard with the cup final in mind to try and get back. He's got back really well and worked hard with the medical team. Good to see him training today and be a part of it."
