Alisson Becker has bemoaned the fact Liverpool couldn't get over the line and topple Manchester City for a second Premier League title in three seasons.

The Reds finished the campaign with a whopping 92 points, but it was still not enough to pry the title away from Pep Guardiola's side who went one better and finished the season on 93.

However, there were times on a dramatic final day of the season where it looked as if City had choked and Jurgen Klopp's men would capitalise.

Aston Villa enjoyed a 2-0 lead at the Etihad with less than 15 minutes left to play, but Steven Gerrard failed to help his old side over in Merseyside out and saw City overturn his current side's lead with three goals in quick succession.

Liverpool, meanwhile, had recovered from going a goal down early on against Wolves to eventually run out 3-1 winners courtesy of goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson. The hard-fought victory proved to be academic due to City's late comeback at the Etihad.

After the game, Alisson admitted that the amount of points accumulated by his side would have been enough in different circumstances. "With 92 points you’d be champions in pretty much all the leagues in the world, but here you aren’t. Sometimes you have to do more.
