Alfredo Morelos uncertainty as Rangers hero rinsed amid rising injury fears with Santos absence being 'little felt'

Alfredo Morelos has no set Santos injury return date as the Rangers hero faces an uncertain wait over his Brazilian future.

The Colombian international had been available to speak with clubs in January, but only completed his move to the South American giant in September after leaving Rangers three months earlier. Just two appearances into his stint though, a calf injury has wrecked havoc on his time at the club and threatened to keep him out of action until 2024.

Brazil's football season only runs until December so the striker may not play for the club again due to a clause which states he is free to go if they fail to beat the drop. And according to Trivela, Morelos "still doesn't have a date for his return to activities" after the injury picked up a month ago. His injury situation "is a little more serious and the chance of him no longer playing this season is real."

That said, his absence has been claimed to be "little felt" thanks to the form of Marcos Leonardo and Julio Cesar Furch. Leonardo has struck 13 times while Furch has three goals which secured tight wins over Gremio, Bahia and Goias.

Morelos' arrival in Brazil came loaded under "great expectations" as per the report but he has so far been unable to string together a run of games. But with a five point gap between Santos and the relegation zone, there could be time to make his mark if he stays beyond this term.

After signing from HJK Helsinki in 2017, the 27-year-old went on to make himself a hero in blue with a Premiership and Scottish Cup under his belt. He netted 124 times in 269 games.
