Alfredo Morelos' Rangers fitness race ramps up with striker to be unleashed on Kilmarnock in time for Champions League

Sidelined Alfredo Morelos is set to be handed his first minutes of the campaign against Kilmarnock as he ramps up his fitness ahead of the Champions League showdown with Union Saint Gilloise.

The Colombian striker hasn't played since March after picking up a thigh injury, missing the Europa League Final in Seville and also the Scottish Cup Final victory at Hampden. He has failed to make an appearance in any pre-season fixture and missed the opening day of the Scottish Premiership against Livingston, as well as the crucial defeat in the third qualifying round against the Belgian side.

Gio van Bronckhorst was forced to start with summer signing Antonio Colak up front with Morelos still not back up to full speed as the Ibrox side put in a toothless performance in Leuven. However, the frontman is set to be handed game time against Kilmarnock on Saturday as he ramps up his bid to make an impact on Tuesday's Champions League second leg in Govan when USG come to Govan.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Derek McInnes' side, the Rangers boss said: "We are looking good. I think the biggest change will be Alfredo is in the squad. He's been training really hard the last week with the team. We think he is ready to be in the squad tomorrow, and hopefully he can play some minutes as well."
