Alfredo Morelos accused of 'horrific tackle' in first Santos start as Rangers hero gets Brazilian media talking

Former Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos was booked for a 'horrific tackle' in his first start for Santos.

Morelos left Rangers on a free transfer in the summer and after a long-running saga that saw Fenerbahce pull a contract out from under him at the final hour, he returned to South America to sign for fallen giants Santos. He's taken his time to feel into it, being used as a substitute against Cruzeiro before watching their clashes with Bahia and Vasco from the sidelines.

He was thrust into it from the start against Palmeiras though...and wasted no time in getting involved. He picked up a booking towards the end of the first half and while game wasn't broadcast in the UK, fans tracking his full debut through popular app Flashscore saw it described as a 'horrific tackle' in their commentary feed. It's claimed he looked 'relieved' to escape with just a yellow card.

As it happened Santos equalised shortly after Morelos' infringement and went on to win the game 2-1 through substitute Marcos Leonardo. Morelos was hooked shortly before the winning goal hit the back of the net though, being replaced by Maximiliano Silvera just before the hour mark.

The Brazilian media though were generally impressed with Morelos with one counter-attack in particular catching the attention. That came early in the game, Morelos playing in midfielder Jean Lucas who charged forward, eventually leading to a chance for Kevyson.
