Alexis Mac Allister makes admission about Brighton's late victory over Manchester United

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister admitted the Seagulls "did everything" they could but were unable to find a way past a stubborn Manchester United defence before being awarded a late penalty in their win over the Reds.

The Argentine converted from the spot in the ninth minute of added-time at the Amex Stadium, with Roberto De Zerbi's men securing an important 1-0 victory over United. For Erik ten Hag's side, the result sees them remain two points behind third-placed Newcastle, having now played the same number of games.

The Reds appeared as though they would be returning to Manchester with a point, but Luke Shaw handled the ball inside the penalty area to gift the home side a chance to win the game - which they took. Ten Hag's men have failed to win away against any of the current top-nine teams in the Premier League this term.

After the game, match-winner Mac Allister praised the performance of his side, suggesting they deserved the victory after a close-fought clash between the two sides.

"We did everything to score but we could not do it," he told Sky Sports. "In the end, we got the penalty. It is easy to play in this team. They help me to be a better player every day."

He added: "I’ve been here three, three-and-a-half years already? And I know what this club gave to me, I’m really grateful with them, really happy to be here.

"I try to transmit that to my teammates, the young players - South American players, which we’ve got a lot. It’s a fantastic team, it’s like a family so every time I get to the pitch I really enjoy playing here."
