Alex Telles makes promise to Manchester United fans for Liverpool fixture in Premier League

Alex Telles has reassured Manchester United fans that friendships with Liverpool players will be put aside on Tuesday.

United travel to Merseyside to take on Liverpool at Anfield tomorrow. United have continued to struggle for form since they returned from the international break, taking just four points from three games against Leicester, Everton and Norwich.

Liverpool have excelled in comparison. Jurgen Klopp's side are challenging for the Premier League title alongside Manchester City and they head into Tuesday's match with plenty of momentum, having beat City 3-2 in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday.

United will be desperate to avoid defeat at Anfield and Telles has been asked about his potential involvement in the clash.

Telles reassured supporters that his friendships with Liverpool's Brazilian contingent won't matter when the game starts.

“I'm really happy to be representing this side, doing my best to help Manchester United," Telles told United's in-house media.

"I'm certain it will be a tough derby game. We'll be prepared, we know [how] we have to play to win in derbies. I don't think any additional motivation is required to have a good game at a tough away ground.

"We're representing United, we are all motivated and aware of our duty. It will be a difficult game, though we're preparing for the game to win it. Friendship remains off the pitch. When we step on the pitch, we fight for our team, our teammates.

“There's no friendship on the pitch until the final whistle blows, then we're good friends again.

"But as soon as the game starts friendship is put to one side.”
