Alex Scott warns of 'shocking stories' about mental health battle in memoir
BBC presenter and former footballer Alex Scott has admitted “everyone will be shocked” at the stories she tells in her new book.
The 37-year-old is publishing her memoir, “How (Not) To Be Strong”, in September.
In an interview with Time Out, Scott suggested the book would be an extremely revealing read.
“I think the title sums it up,” she said. “I’ve lived my whole life putting on an act, and there’s a lot of things in it that people will have no idea that I went through.
“I’m at a stage in my life where I just want some freedom, and I’ve managed to feel like it’s a time where I can [be open.] I think everyone will be shocked at the stories in the book.”
Scott previously opened up about the battle with her mental health battle in an interview with Women’s Health last year.
“When I retired, getting trolled, I found that I was turning to drink to try and hide everything, hide what I was feeling,” she said.
“Looking at my daily life, many would wonder how I could be ‘depressed’. But mental illness doesn’t work like that.”
Scott, who made more than 150 appearances for Arsenal during an illustrious career on the pitch, is now fronting the BBC’s coverage of Euro 2022.
England have impressed so far, scoring nine goals and conceding none during victories against Austria and Norway.
Having already booked a place in the quarter-finals, the Lionesses will play Northern Ireland in their final Group A match on Friday.
“I feel really positive,” Scott told Time Out. “When you think about the depth to the team, the young talent as well as the experience in it, we’re in a great place.
“If this England team were to go on and win it, it would take the women’s game in this country to a whole new level. That’s what I’m hoping for. Hopefully
