Alex Lowry Rangers injury return timeline revealed following horror tackle against Dumbarton

Rangers hope Alex Lowry will be back in anything between four to six weeks.

The talented midfielder was stretchered off after a horror challenge in Tuesday’s Challenge Cup clash with Dumbarton. Lowry was caught after a poor tackle by Dumbarton’s Ally Love against Rangers B. The Ibrox youngster ran out 7-0 winners over the Sons with Lowry bagging a hat-trick in the convincing win. New signing Zak Lovelace was also on target alongside first team hopeful Charlie McCann, Stephen kelly and substitute Alex Lyall.

However, Lowry's game was ended early after a shocking tackle from Love as the game drew to a close. The youngster has been pictured with a knee brace and on crutches in the aftermath. There were genuine fears that Lowry could be out long-term but the latest diagnosis is a lot more promising than first expected, and it could be back between four to six weeks.

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst said: "Lowry will be some weeks out with injury.”

Love’s challenge on Lowry has been witnessed on social media and led to Love making claims that he has faced death threats since the incident. Lowry made his Gers top team breakthrough last season, scoring on his debut in a Scottish Cup fourth round win over Stirling Albion at Ibrox.

And he rounded off his season in style. An impressive display for a second string Rangers side at Tynecastle on the final day of the Premiership season saw Lowry put the visitors ahead in first-half stoppage time as they won the dress rehearsal for the following week's Scottish Cup final at hampden 3-1.
