Alessia Russo says people still discuss her 'outrageous’ back-heel at Euro 2022
Alessia Russo says people are still talking about her iconic back-heel finish against Sweden at Euro 2022.
The 23-year-old was a key part of the England squad that achieved history on home soil and her memorable goal in the semi-final will be watched on repeat for years to come.
With England leading 2-0, the striker picked up the ball in the box, while facing away from the goal.
Initially, it appeared near impossible for Russo to score, but the Man United star had other ideas.
A sumptuous back-heel from the striker saw the ball go through the Swedish keeper’s legs and sent the Bramall Lane crowd into raptures.
The goal was deservedly voted the best goal of the tournament, ahead of Alexandra Popp’s second goal for Germany in their semi-final vs France.
