Aleksandar Mitrovic reacts to goal record and sends Fabio Carvalho message to Liverpool

Aleksandar Mitrovic has enjoyed the season of his life.

Going into the current campaign, the Serbian had hit double figures in three of his four seasons at Fulham so he had shown his talents in front of goal. But never had he enjoyed a prolific period as this.

Monday saw the 27-year-old notch a scarcely-believable 43rd league goal of the season in a thumping 7-0 win at home to Luton Town. The victory secured not only the Championship title for the already-promoted Cottagers and saw them surpass the 100-goal mark for the season.

But it also saw Mitrovic overtake Guy Whittingham's tally of 42 goals in the second tier. That particular feat was achieved in the 1992-93 season for Portsmouth.

But Mitrovic hit a brace against the Hatters to move past Whittingham on a night of celebrations at Craven Cottage. Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, the former Newcastle man admits breaking the record completed a "perfect" night for him.

"I always say that I don't try and think about the record but when you get close everybody starts talking so of course I wanted to break it," he said. "And today it happened and it was special. So I think the season has finished just how we wanted it to in our dreams, with a big win at home in front of our crowd. And I broke the record so everything was perfect."

Mitrovic's post-match interview was conducted alongside talented midfielder Fabio Carvalho. The 19-year-old has been another stand-out performer for Marco Silva's side chipping in with a healthy contribution of 10 goals and eight assists.
