Alejandro Garnacho makes Manchester United promise in strong message after Liverpool FC thumping

Youngster Alejandro Garnacho has promised that Manchester United's players will deliver a "reaction" when they face Real Betis in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 clash at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

United, who dumped Barcelona out of the competition in the last round, will be determined to get back on track at the first available opportunity after Sunday's humiliating 7-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. After finding themselves 1-0 down at half-time, following a fairly even first half, the Reds collapsed after the break, conceding six times without reply.

It marked United's biggest defeat since Boxing Day 1931, meaning the players will be determined to get back to winning ways against Betis and start making amends for one of the most dramatic second-half capitulations ever witnessed in the Premier League era. They had no answer for Liverpool's ruthlessness.

A few members of the squad have stepped forward to make it clear that what happened was inexcusable, including goalkeeper David de Gea and leading goalscorer Marcus Rashford. They have now been joined in doing so by 18-year-old Garnacho, who stepped off the bench at Anfield with the Reds already 3-0 down.

Taking to his Twitter page, Garnacho posted: "We are so sorry. We will give you a reaction on Thursday, Reds."

Garnacho, who was called up to the Argentina squad on Friday, was one of six players to drop out of the starting line-up against Jurgen Klopp's side, meaning he will be determined to wrestle his place back for the clash with Betis.
