Alejandro Garnacho ‘agrees’ new Manchester United contract and more transfer rumours

Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly agreed in principle to a new Manchester United contract with only a few details to be finalised before the teenager signs on the dotted line.

The 18-year-old has been this season’s breakthrough academy star with three goals and five assists in 25 senior appearances. The winger is now considered a first-team regular and has delivered several important moments for United this season.

After scoring his first senior goal to hand the Reds a 1-0 Europa League win over Real Sociedad in November, Garnacho netted a stoppage-time winner against Fulham before teeing up Marcus Rashford’s definitive strike in January’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City.

ESPN now reports that the Argentine has initially agreed to a new five-year deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2028. Only image rights need to be thrashed out before he puts pen to paper.

Garnacho is apparently set for a big rise in wages, which will increase as his role in the side becomes more prominent in future years. It is reported that the current takeover bidding process at United is not affecting the negotiation of new deals with the likes of David de Gea yet to agree to a renewal ahead of this summer’s contract expiry date.

Meanwhile, right-back Sergino Dest is due to head back to Barcelona at the end of the season with loan club AC Milan deciding not to trigger their option-to-buy, Sport says. Erik ten Hag was interested in a move for the full-back as he searched for competition for Diogo Dalot last summer.
