Manuel Akanji gives assessment on Man City position in Premier League title race with Arsenal

Manuel Akanji is still feeling confident about Manchester City's Premier League title hopes.

It's been a rollercoaster week for City in the title race and it looks far from over in a campaign that promises plenty of twists and turns. The Blues defeated Arsenal, their biggest title rival, 3-1 in a scintillating match last Wednesday only to then throw away their budding momentum with a disappointing draw against Nottingham Forest.

As the Gunners picked up a galvanising victory over Aston Villa beforehand, the ball is back in their court as they lead by two points with a game in hand. However, Akanji remains hopeful City can claim the trophy.

“I feel really good, I feel confident," the centre-back said. "We are obviously two points behind and played one more game than Arsenal, but we still have to play against them and there’s a lot of games left. It’s on us to win our games and focus on ourselves.”

Akanji has enjoyed a strong start to life at City after his summer move from Borussia Dortmund and he also discussed the differences he's found between English and German football and how he is finding working for Pep Guardiola.

“The Premier League is more physical," the Swiss added. "There’s never an easy game – it doesn’t matter which team you are facing – you’ve always got to be at your best otherwise you are going to concede goals. You have to always be ready in your head and for the aggressiveness that the other teams show.
