Aldi takes on M&S with £3.99 treat that's almost half the price

Easter eggs comes in all shapes and sizes these days, so it's probably no surprise that you can find animal-shaped ones.

Yes you can buy eggs for pets - we wouldn't want to leave out our furry friends - but these particular pet-shaped treats are for humans and they're arriving in Aldi this week.

Charlie the Labrador and Honey the Golden Retriever proved so successful last year that they're returning to stores for Easter 2025. And this year there's a new addition too - Mabel the Tabby Cat.

Aldi has made no secret of who it's competing against. M&S just happens to sell its own animal-shaped eggs in the form of Flossy the Highland Cow, Coco the Kitten, Curly the Cockapoo and Dougal the Westie.

And with a price tag of £3.99 at Aldi, compared with £7 at M&S - and only a 5g difference in weight - it's confident of pulling in the shoppers.

"The three adorable pets come in different flavours - Honey the Golden Retriever is made with silky sweet blonde chocolate, Charlie the Labrador is made with a rich, marbled milk chocolate, and Mabel the Tabby Cat is a mix of milk and white chocolate" says the budget retailer.

"At just £3.99 each, these chocolate pets make the ideal Easter gift for cat, dog and chocolate lovers alike. Not only this, but they come in at a whopping 41% cheaper than M&S’ alternative, Dougal the Puppy."

Aldi's range also includes Easter Eggs with plush toys of the animals for £4.99, Easter eggs with activity books for £3.99, and the adorable characters in chocolate lolly form too, costing 99p.

Aldi’s Dairyfine Chocolate Pet range, which is Rainforest Alliance Certified chocolate, is available in stores from January 30. The rest of Aldi’s Easter range will land in stores between now and April.
