Aldi shopper speechless at cashier's response when OAP is left £1 short for shopping

A woman visiting Aldi was left dumbstruck when she heard a cashier's response to an OAP being left £1 short when paying for her shopping. The heart-breaking encounter took the Aldi shopper aback, and she's shared it on social media so the whole world can hear about it.

With bills rising, more of us are struggling to pay our bills, and many people are being left strapped for cash out shopping. A woman visiting the Aldi in Towcester was witness to this when an OAP couldn't afford her shopping, and has told the story online.

Okay, we know it's not Manchester. But it's a nice story, and let's be honest, most of us shop at Aldi these days, so does it really matter where it happened in the long run?

On the Aldi shoppers UK group, Roné Bouwer Baxendell wrote: "Today at my local Aldi in Towcester, there was an elderly lady in front of me, keep checking how much she’s spending…long story short, the amount came to over what she had and asked for certain items to be credited off. The ALDI cashier turned around and said it’s only £1 something over, I’ll pay it for you. "When it was my turn I said what a lovely thing to do and the reply was…we are all battling at the moment and we need to eat. You want to know why my ALDI is special and why I go there…this is why."

Beth Cornish said: "We do this at work too sadly it is becoming more regular and it is heart breaking we actually had an elderly customer a couple of weeks ago in tears as the price of eggs had gone up and she couldn't afford half a dozen eggs another customer bought them for her and then brought it to our attention, there are many angels out there and trust me we can tell the fraudsters."
