Albion Rovers sympathise with 'out of pocket' fans over games postponement

Albion Rovers have sympathised with supporters after their League Two match at Elgin City tomorrow was postponed as a mark of respect, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The 96-year-old monarch passed away on Thursday, with decisions taken earlier today to scrap football games in the Premiership, Championship, Leagues One and Two, Lowland League, West of Scotland League and Scottish Women's Premier League this weekend.

Coatbridge club Rovers pointed out that already struggling supporters might be hard-hit by the decision.

They said on social media: "Our match against Elgin City, which was due to take place tomorrow afternoon, has now been postponed as a mark of respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"We understand some of our supporters will be severely out of pocket if they have already booked accommodation/travel, in what is currently a cost of living crisis.

"We know football is also an escape for us all too."
