Albion Rovers face striker crisis for Annan Athletic clash

Albion Rovers will be without a recognised striker for tomorrow's League Two clash away to Annan Athletic.

The Cliftonhill outfit are done to the bare bones with injuries and suspensions hitting their frontline.

Star striker Kyle Doherty was sent-off in Rovers' 1-0 win away to Stirling Albion on Tuesday night and will miss the trip to Galabank alongside a number of fellow attackers.

Gaffer Brian Reid explained: "We go into Saturday with no fit or available strikers at the club.

"Declan Byrne and Max Wright are out injured, Doc is suspended, Charlie Reilly is still struggling.

"That's four attacking players we could be down.

"Kieran Dolan only came back on Monday and got a game with the reserves so I don't know how ready he'll be.

"It's a bit of a problem and we'll just need to adjust because we'll be down to about 14 players.

"We'll need to dig in and play players out of position."

Rovers head south looking to bolster their position in League Two, having climbed to eighth in the table and 11 points clear of bottom side Cowdenbeath off the back of a three-game unbeaten run.

Last time out Rovers suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat on March 2, but the other league meetings this term have been tight affairs with a 1-1 draw in November and a 1-0 win for Annan in August at Cliftonhill.

Reid added: "We had pretty close encounters with Annan in my time at the club, apart from the last game.

"We always do quite well down there but Annan are the form team in the league at the moment ahead of [champions elect] Kelty.

"They've got some good players, but it's mostly the same players we finished above last season.

"We are on a wee unbeaten run now with three clean sheets so we've got to believe we can go down there and get something."
