Albion Rovers boss rues missed chances as 'determined' Edinburgh Uni grab rare win

Albion Rovers boss Sandy Clark was left to rue missed chances, but admits Edinburgh University were more determined, as they ran out with a 2-1 Lowland League win at Cliftonhill on Saturday.

The second-bottom students picked up only their second win of the season so far, as goals from Joe Aitken and Lewis Hendry either side of a Michael Paton volley saw them take three points back to the capital.

Clark says his side created more than enough chances to win the game, but lacked quality.

He told the club’s website: “It was a disappointing defeat. Unexpected? You can never say that in football, really, but when you look at the league table and the way we’ve been playing, we were certainly favourites for the game.

“That’s a wee bit unusual, to be fair, in a lot of the times that we’re playing.

“In terms of the game itself, did we deserve to get something from it? Maybe with the chances that we made.

“We created a hell of a lot of chances first half and second half, and didn’t put them away, but that’s our responsibility to do that.

“They scored two goals, the second one could have been offside, some of our lads were saying it was, but that’s breaks that can go for you or against you, and I’m not blaming the referee or anything for that.

“Edinburgh Uni, to their credit, came with a spirit. I thought they worked so hard, were probably more determined than us, and got their rewards for that and went away with three points.”

Clark added: “We did enough to get something, but not enough quality to make it count.

“I’ve known Michael a long time, he’s a good footballer and it’s a great goal.

“He’s had a really difficult time with injuries over the last year or so and it’s great for him, getting the goal.
