Albion Rovers boss: Don't let Lowland League season end with a whimper

Albion Rovers boss Sandy Clark has told his players he doesn’t want their season to end with a whimper and challenged them to win all their remaining games.

Saturday saw Rovers slip to a 1-0 defeat at Civil Service Strollers, which followed a disappointing defeat to second-bottom Edinburgh University the previous week, and Clark is determined they don’t complete their first season down in the fifth tier on a low note.

Rovers Aere hoping to delay champions-elect East Kilbride from officially claiming the title tomorrow night and they are then without a game this coming weekend.

Their next outing is on Wednesday, April 10 away to Tranent, followed by a home clash with Civil Service Strollers on April 13 and a clash away to Berwick Rangers on the final day of the campaign on April 20.

And Clark told Lanarkshire Live Sport : “I don’t want to finish with a whimper, I want us to win all our games and finish as high up the league as we can.

“The rest of the season becomes a situation where I know all my players now, I know who I want to keep and I am looking at different systems for us to use.

“That’s what we will do over the last few games to build foundations for next season.

“I am trying to put things in place for next season to try and improve in the areas we need to.

“It came through quite strongly on Saturday that we are short of a few players who can make us a team that can challenge higher up the league.

“We need a bit more quality in all areas of the pitch and will work to improve that for next season.”

In Saturday’s defeat at Strollers, a goal from Ross Guthrie five minutes before half time was all that separated the two sides.
